Question # 1 on Day 2

Hi!

I hope everyone is getting ready to knit their scarves! I am...and very excited to have some friends to do it with!

I was looking over the pattern this AM and I have already found I have a question. On Day 2 there is this:

15th Row: (right side), ESK4, K2, x P2, K1, YO, K1, P2, K1, drop next stitch from the knitting needle and unravel it down to the YO (yarn over), KR1 x, rep.

Okay, dropping and unraveling will be very new to me (at least, doing so on PURPOSE!) but what is a KR1?

Ok, I think we have to be aware of errors in the pattern. I have looked in the Sweedish version, and this say K1 - So, the R is maybe a mistake in writing...

Okay, will change this on my pattern. :) Thanks! (I just printed out the English version--should maybe have the Swedish as back-up?)

I should have kept the Swedish version ~ I printed both and only kept the English ~ Hobbygasa, you're a life saver!
The 'dropping and unraveling' is a bit daunting! I've never dropped a stitch on purpose let alone unravel ~ yikes!

...and I've decided it is a good idea (for me!) to put in a lifeline at the end of every successful day! some of the days look a bit difficult and I've learned ripping lace out is hard so I know I'll always have a good place to go back to ;)

I feel like I'm chatting with myself;)
I'm more confused about Row 15 (day 2) after sitting down & doing the math ~ the second time thru it says to do no yarn overs but that only leaves you with 79st instead of 87 at the end of the row ... I dug my Swedish version out of the recycling and it does say you should still have 87st ... should I also not drop stitches that row (that would make up the lost 8)?

I still have my parents visiting here, but they will leave later today. When they are gone there will be much more computertime lol:. Will have a look at the pattern and your question later today to see if I can figure it out. Christmas is some cozy days, but with people in and out for dinners and lunches there is no time for computers. But from this evening everything is back to normal here lol:.

Lifelines are good!I too will be using them. I've learned the hard way tinking back in lace is NOT PRETTY. Akin to surgery. I don't like either!

I am going to be looking at Day 2 later today.

My mom is scheduled for surgery on Dec. 31st (early morning) so I am starting a bit early in the KAL in the anticipation that I won't have "concentrating" time for a few days afterwards.

She is still dealing with kidney problems, but she is at Mayo Clinic (the best in the world) and so we are confident that 1 or 2 more surgeries and things will be back to normal! She's pretty tough...

Back to the shawl--I will post a pic' soon--day 1 is alot of knitting...not sure if each day is like that? I did mine in snatches here and there throughout yesterday--and I am loving the variety so far!

Pic' soon!

No rush on the help ~ won't actually start knitting til Jan 1...just getting the 'math kinks' worked out before hand so I can figure out ahead of time where I'm going to get stuck...that should keep my knitting pretty carefree once I start ;)

Hi twoknitwit!
I have had a look at day 2 and this is how I read it;
You start the patter with 4+79+4 stitches,
in row 3 you make yarn overs,
in row 9 you slip stitches, and make YO,
in row 15 you make YO, and slip stitches.
When you knit the rows second time, there is no row 3 (no YO)
row 8 is the same,
row 15 is no YO, but you slip stitches
- and then you are back to 4+79+4 stitches.
In my mind this looks pretty correct, but I can have missed something.

giggle...it's like looking for your glasses when they're on top of your head...I missed that there was an increase row (row3) but would have figured that out when I was actually knitting that day ~
you'd think I was a brand new knitter ;)~ thanks!

That's why it's good to have another set of eyes...GRIN

:)

I didn't catch that one either, but I haven't started Day 2 yet. I think I may chance it and "wait"...

Hehe, I am used to look for tiny hidings. Have worked with accounting all my grown up life, and have spent hours and hours searcing for pennies and small differences..
But, this is actually the first time I have had a look at the pattern before I start knitting lol:. I usually knit-frog, knit-frog until I get the hang of it. Maybe I can use the normal amount of time this way, and with no frogging lol:.

I think you knit like oneknitwit! I almost ALWAYS rewrite long, complicated patterns to make sure I get the math right and understand the pattern before I even cast on! It's interesting how we all do things differently to get to the same beautiful finished piece! I think my way comes from really disliking doing things incorrectly, even as a first time learning experience ~ I'm a bit hard on myself when I make mistakes...something I am working on ;)
